Calf Stretch

Gastrocnemius and Soleus Stretch

  1. Stand with one foot in front of other with both feet facing forwards.
  2. Keep your back leg straight.
  3. Slowly bend the front leg forwards, until you feel a stretch down the back of your calf muscle.  This is stretching the Gastrocnemius Muscle.
  4. Hold this stretch for about 15 seconds.
  5. Now lift your back heel slightly off the ground, putting a bend into the knee. This will stretch the Soleus Muscle.
  6. Hold this stretch for about 15 seconds.
  7. Repeat for the other leg.

Notes on this exercise

  • You can use a wall to lean into, if you are unable to keep your balance.
  • If this stretch causes pain, stop immediately.
